Getting Started
What to expect before and after contacting Val’s.
How do I request care from Val’s?+
Use the Request Care form or contact the Ahoskie office at (252) 332-2071. The form begins a general inquiry.
What happens after I submit a Request Care form?+
- Val’s receives the general information.
- The office reviews the inquiry.
- A staff member may contact you to explain the appropriate next step.
- Additional assessment, eligibility, authorization, or referral steps may be required.
- Services proceed only when applicable requirements are met, Val’s can accept the case, and staffing is available.
I don’t know which service or program I need. Can I still contact Val’s?+
Yes. You do not need to know whether Personal Care Services, CAP/DA, CAP/C, Personal Care Services Under 21, or another confirmed service applies before making an inquiry. Val’s can explain general next steps, but it does not independently determine Medicaid eligibility.
Does submitting a request mean services will start?+
No. A request does not establish eligibility, authorization, case acceptance, staffing, or a service start date.
Services & Programs
Plain-language descriptions of the support currently presented on the website.
What types of services does Val’s provide?+
Val’s provides confirmed personal care and non-medical in-home support that may include Personal Care Services, CAP/DA, CAP/C, Personal Care Services Under 21, respite, companion/sitter support, assistance with activities of daily living, and other approved non-medical support. Visit Services for plain-language details.
What is Personal Care Services?+
Personal Care Services can provide hands-on assistance with routine activities that may be difficult for a person to complete independently. Support is based on assessed needs, authorization when required, and the individual plan of care. Not every listed task applies to every person.
What is CAP/DA?+
CAP/DA is the Community Alternatives Program for Disabled Adults. It supports eligible adults with qualifying needs who may receive approved services in their home or community. Eligibility is determined through the appropriate program process—not by Val’s alone. Services depend on authorization, the approved care plan, and agency availability.
What is CAP/C?+
CAP/C is the Community Alternatives Program for Children. It supports eligible children with qualifying needs who may receive approved services and support in their home or community. The appropriate program process determines eligibility. Val’s does not approve program participation, and services depend on authorization, the approved care plan, and agency availability.
Does Val’s provide services for individuals under age 21?+
Val’s may provide Personal Care Services Under 21 based on the applicable assessment, authorization, and plan of care. The appropriate program process—not Val’s independently—determines eligibility and approval.
Does Val’s provide respite or companion/sitter support?+
Yes, these are confirmed service categories. Respite may provide temporary approved support while a family caregiver receives relief. Companion/sitter support may include companionship, supervision, safety awareness, routine household support, and help with everyday activities. Arrangements depend on the applicable service plan, case acceptance, and staff availability.
Can caregivers give medications?+
The website describes medication reminders only—not medication administration or clinical medication management. Contact the office if a person’s needs involve more than reminders.
Does Val’s provide skilled nursing or therapy?+
Val’s public website primarily presents the agency’s services as personal care and non-emergency in-home support. It does not advertise skilled nursing or therapy services. Contact the office to discuss a specific need without sending medical records or detailed medical information through a general website form.

Does living in a service county guarantee Val’s can accept my case?+

Medicaid, Eligibility & Authorization
Careful answers about decisions that Val’s does not make independently.
Does Val’s determine Medicaid eligibility?+
No. Medicaid or program eligibility is determined through the appropriate program and process. Val’s can explain general next steps but does not independently make an eligibility decision.
Does contacting Val’s mean I have been approved for services?+
No. Contacting Val’s or submitting a form begins an inquiry. It is not approval for a program or services and does not guarantee authorization, case acceptance, staffing, or a start date.
How do I know whether CAP/DA, CAP/C, PCS, or PCS Under 21 applies to me?+
Requirements differ by program. You may contact Val’s with general information about the support being explored, and the office can explain an appropriate next step. This conversation is not an eligibility screening or approval decision.
